PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Academic Year 2025/2026

The Professional and Personal Development Programme includes courses that lead to obtaining a university-specific qualification awarded by UNED. Each course will be delivered in one of the following categories: Professional Expert, Open Education, Professional Development, and respond to training demands based on the needs and interests of the labour market. These courses will be promoted by UNED or by social and economic entities seeking academic support from the University to improve the quality of their training activities and the development of their professional groups.

Admission requirements: there are no minimum admission requirements, except for those specific to each course established by its director.

Target

El curso se imparte íntegramente en inglés y la interacción y comunicación en los foros será igualmente en inglés, por lo que hace falta tener un nivel intermedio-avanzado para poder seguirlo.

El curso está dirigido a integrantes de la Judicatura española que quieran mejorar su dominio del inglés jurídico para poder comunicarse en dicha lengua en el ámbito profesional.

 

The course is taught entirely in English, and interaction in the relevant forums will also take place in this language. An intermediate/advanced level of English is required to succesfully follow the course.

This course is adddressed to the Spanish Judiciary, and aims to improve their command of legal English so that they can communicate in this language in professional contexts.

1. Goals

Los objetivos de este curso son los siguientes / The objectives of this course are to:

 

1. Familiarizarse con los rasgos distintivos del inglés jurídico (Become familiar with the distinctive features of legal English).

 

2. Conocer la diferencia entre el inglés que se utiliza en los  países con sistemas de derecho común y el que se usa en la Unión Europea (Be aware of the differences between the legal English that is used in common law legal systems and in the European Union).

 

3. Mejorar el dominio del vocabulario jurídico en diversos ámbitos (Improve the command of legal vocabulary in different areas of the law).

 

4. Desarrollar el nivel de comprensión de textos jurídicos escritos y orales (Improve the level of understanding of written and oral legal texts).

 

5. Potenciar las habilidades profesionales en inglés (Develop professional skills in English).

2. Contents

El curso incluye los siguientes módulos - The course includes the following modules:

 

1. Rasgos distintivos del inglés jurídico - The distinctive features of legal English.

 

2. El inglés jurídico de la Unión Europea - Legal English in the European Union.

 

3. El vocabulario jurídico en inglés: teoría y práctica - Legal vocabulary in English: theory and practice.

 

4. Práctica con ejercicios de inglés jurídico (civil, penal, derechos humanos, etc.) - Legal English practical exercises (civil, criminal, human rights, etc.).

 

5. Habilidades profesionales en inglés - Professional skills in English.

3. Methodology and activities

Habrá diversos materiales teóricos y prácticos (así como charlas grabadas) en el curso virtual. Los alumnos han de ir trabajando con dichos materiales a su propio ritmo.

El curso se imparte íntegramente en inglés.

Los alumnos tendrán que entregar un trabajo final, del que se les informará con suficiente antelación; dicho trabajo conformará el 100% de la calificación final del curso.

 

The online course includes theoretical and practical materials (as well as recordings) that students will have to work with at their own pace.

The course is taught entirely in English.

In order to successfully complete the course, students have to submit a final assignment, the instructions for which will

be provided on the online course with sufficient time.

9. Evaluation and Qualification Criteria

El 100% del resultado del curso se obtiene de un trabajo final, que habrá de entregarse obligatoriamente en tiempo y forma. Este ha de superarse con un mínimo de un 50% de su valor.

Dada la naturaleza del curso, únicamente se contempla la posibilidad de Apto/No Apto/No Presentado en la calificación final.

 

The course is successfully completed upon submission of a final assignment (which must be turned in in compliance with both the formal requirements and deadlines), in which students must obtain at least 50% of its total mark (5 out of 10). Due to the nature of the course, the only possible results will be "Apto", "No Apto" and "No Presentado".
